Prostatitis. Signs, symptoms and causes

pain in a man with prostatitis

Men and women alike, have their fears. Women are afraid of losing their beauty and becoming unattractive, and men are afraid of feeling their masculine failure. When a man is diagnosed with prostatitis, he immediately panics and fears losing his masculinity, and sometimes it's helpful for a man to visit a psychiatrist. with a urologist.

Prostatitis is an inflammatory disease of the prostate gland (prostate gland). This organ, similar in shape and size to a chestnut, is located just below the bladder and produces semen, which is involved in sperm transport. But the whole point is that the same organ (the urethra) performs two functions at the same time, both as a urethra and as a conductor of semen. With prostatitis, both functions begin to be affected, which is a complication of prostatitis development and treatment. For women, in this respect, everything is much simpler, since these functions are separated for them.

Symptoms of Prostatitis

The US National Institutes of Health divides prostatitis into four types:

  • acute bacterial prostatitis
  • chronic prostatitis
  • bacterial prostatitis
  • asymptomatic prostatitis

Symptoms and signs of prostatitis vary depending on the type.

Acute bacterial prostatitis is acute and has the following symptoms:

  • flu-like symptoms
  • chills and fever
  • pain in the groin, lower back and prostate
  • frequent urination
  • pain when urinating and blood in urine
  • painful ejaculation

With these signs, you should call an ambulance or consult a doctor immediately.

Chronic bacterial prostatitis does not develop as acutely as the first type of prostatitis. Symptoms develop gradually, the course of the disease occurs in waves, that is, periods of calm are replaced by exacerbations.

Symptoms of chronic prostatitis:

  • burning and pain when urinating
  • frequent urination, especially at night
  • pain in the pelvis, lower back and genitals
  • recurrent cystitis

Chronic bacterial prostatitis has very similar symptoms to bacterial prostatitis, but for the most part, it progresses without fever and exacerbations. It is possible to distinguish bacterial prostatitis from bacterial prostatitis only by conducting special laboratory tests.

The symptoms and signs of prostatitis are the same as for many other diseases.

Causes of prostatitis

The main cause of prostatitis is a type of bacteria found in the large intestine. The infection begins to develop directly in the prostate, but sometimes it also occurs when it enters the prostate from the bladder or urethra. Chronic bacterial prostatitis may develop after acute prostatitis, or it may appear due to an infection of other organs that may be the source of the infection.

The causes of chronic prostatitis are not fully understood, currently several causes and theories about the occurrence of this disease have been put forward:

  • Lifting heavy objects can cause illness if lifting heavy objects when the bladder is full, so urine can be pushed into the prostate gland, thus causing inflammation;
  • Pelvic muscle spasms or anatomical disorders of the genital tract can also lead to inflammation;
  • Interstitial cystitis, despite the fact that the disease is predominantly female, can also occur in men;

These are the main symptoms, signs and causes of prostatitis. Prostatitis is not a contact disease and is not sexually transmitted.

How to cure prostatitis?

Treatment in this case can only be prescribed by a doctor after a diagnosis has been made. Don't heed the advice of friends who suggest trying methods by which they've been healed. Medicines for the treatment of prostatitis are prescribed individually. With prostatitis of the first and second types, antibiotics are used, physiotherapy, bathing and massage are prescribed. Occasionally, although in rare cases, surgery may be necessary.

In order for prostatitis not to enter your life, you need to lead a correct, healthy lifestyle and in addition to a moderate sex life (not forgetting the means of protection and prevention). Drinking coffee, tobacco and spicy foods should be kept to a minimum. In addition, you need to drink a lot of water, and do not forget to empty your bladder regularly and on time. Any disease is easier to prevent than to treat.
